Just four years ago, Chanelle Rosé established and wanted to grow Iowa Drag Awards! In 2023, Chanelle approached Drag King DSM and asked to partner with this production powerhouse for the 3rd annual. It did NOT disappoint!
Receiving over 10,000 nominations this past year was an impressive feat and speaks to the engagement and enthusiasm of the Iowa community for the drag scene. With 80 nominees across 16 categories, the event looks to uplift, celebrate and recognize the diverse talent within Iowa's robust drag scene.
The inclusion of 8 Iowa-based performers and 3 out-of-state headliners adds an exciting dynamic to the event, showcasing not only local talent but also drawing attention from beyond state borders. This is the Oscar's of drag in Iowa, looking to celebrate Iowa's amazing drag talent and community. We want to not only highlight but create an elevated event for all those working tirelessly day in and day out to bring you entertaining drag performances all year round.
Moving to a larger venue like Wooly's indicates the event's growth and the increasing demand for such celebrations, providing a platform for drag artists to showcase their talent and for the community to come together in support. It was a magical evening for everyone involved and we can’t wait for December 2024!
